What is PRF? Everything You Need to Know About Platelet-Rich Fibrin!

What is PRF?

The Platelet-Rich Fibrin technique, PRF for short, is where we draw your own blood from your arm, place it in a centrifuge to spin down and to generate a complex Fibrin Matrix rich in Platelets, Leukocytes and Mesenchymal stem cells. For 10-12 days this results in the constant release of Growth factors and interleukins which accelerate tissue healing and regenerating processes. Here is a behind-the-scenes video!

What is PRF used for?

PRF is great for skin crepiness that filler might not be able to treat alone. Most common areas to treat with PRF are under eyes and the scalp for hair growth especially in men!

Is PRF natural?

YES! And this is why people love it! It is literally using your own blood products to produce your body’s own collagen and growth factors.

Why do PRF instead of Filler?

PRF is more for skin tightening and hair growth whereas filler replenishes lost volume and contours. You can however mix filler in with PRF to achieve both results! PRF is a great option that can treat areas where filler might not be able to be treated alone.

How many treatments will I need?

Most people need 3 treatments over three months to achieve optimal results and then maintenance thereafter. Hair growth may require up to 6 treatments.

Does it hurt?

We use numbing before we insert the needle, but if you are really anxious we can offer your Nitrous Oxide aka “laughing gas.”

What is the downtime?

Most people have little to no downtime. Because we are still injecting the PRF with needles or cannulas you can get some bruising and swelling. If you experience a lot of swelling you can take antihistamines, motrin and ask us to call you in a steroid pack.

How Do I Get Started With Platelet-Rich Fibrin?

At The Aesthetic Method, we believe in understanding the aspects of aging and combating it proactively. In order to do this, each patient receives our Signature Full Face Assessment at their initial appointment. At that time we will address individual concerns as well as recommendations on what to monitor, what to treat and what to leave because no matter what, you’re beautiful!

Your specialized injector will create a plan that will outline treatments over the course of the next year or two, so you can decide what is right for you and budget accordingly! Injectables should not be a la carte, our job is to balance your face, never to overfill or freeze it.

Please note when looking for an appointment, we open our schedule three months in advance and are usually booked 2-4 weeks out. We do not have a cancellation list, but we post all last-minute availability on Facebook and Instagram stories, so make sure to follow us there. Our Nurse Injectors, Lily and Lauren, have their books open for both new and existing clients. Stephanie, PA-C and Nurse Injector Dana only take a select number of new clients each month, if you are interested in seeing one of them, please email info@theaestheticmethod.com or call 313-992-6659.
